Ian Cameron lost his life in the line of duty on the 2nd May 1980. His Red Plaque was unveiled on the 2nd May 2024.

Sub Officer Ian died on duty following a Fire Engine colliding with a tree on Beverley Road after it was called to an incident. Despite the efforts of the crew, Ian, who was in charge of the engine, died at the scene. They were based at what was then the North Hull fire station

The unveiling ceremony at Clough Road Fire Station was attended by family, friends and former colleagues of Mr Cameron and included speeches from FBU officials and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service.

FBU Brigade Organiser Lloyd Akers for Humberside, said:

“It will provide a place for those who knew and loved him to gather, and for future generations of firefighters to reflect on the bravery of those who have gone before us. All firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty are an important part of our history, and we will always remember.”

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Niall McKiniry said;

“The loss of Ian was a tragedy. Although the incident happened 44 years ago, we at Humberside Fire and Rescue Service believe it’s vitally important to honour our fallen colleagues and make sure nobody is forgotten.

“Having the Red Plaque on the front of Clough Road Fire Station is a wonderful way to remember and pay tribute to Ian. He is fondly remembered for always having a smile on his face, as a supportive leader and respected by his peers and his watch. The Service fully supports the FBU Red Plaque initiative and we’re thankful to all who helped make this day possible, especially retired colleague Dale McClean who submitted the nomination. It’s an opportunity to remember and celebrate Ian’s life and commitment to our community with his family, former, and current colleagues.”

During the service those attending were also able to place wreaths in remembrance of Ian. The plaque supplements the memorial tree planted by Ian’s colleagues and our memorial plaque at Humberside Service HQ.

    My Brother

    My Amazing Brother is the main reason I am who I am, his wisdom and guidance shaped me so much from Christmas Eve sleepovers as a boy, 6 weeks of summer heaven in the school holidays, fishing, though I spent more time running up the bank scaring the fish ! to our clifftop conversations putting the world right and exchanging Music Albums , I turned him onto Jean Michel Jarre and Ian introduced me to Gershwin we shared so many more. I miss him with all my Heart xXx
