Kevin Power
Kevin Power lost his life in the line of duty on the 30th September 1992. His Red Plaque was unveiled on the 30th September 2026.
Temporary Sub Officer Kevin John Power was riding with his colleagues in a fire truck on 30 September 1992 because they picked up a fire call and were driving South down Scrubs Lane. On a bend, the truck skidded as the rear wheels caught on some newly laid anti-skid gravel which was on only one side of the road – the truck tipped over, throwing Kevin from the cab as the door was not securely fastened and the under the side of the vehicle killing him instantly. Three other firefighters were also injured in the incident. It was later discovered that the call was a false alarm.
He died at the age of 35, survived by his wife Pauline Power and two children.
He is also commemorated on the London Fire Brigade memorial plaque in Highgate Cemetery and at the National Firefighters Memorial in London.
